Valley Fight News.com Gym Spotlight: Ochoa Combat Academy

The Ochoa name originally started with Sam Ochoa, a black belt in Ken-Ju-Bo-Ka Kenpo Karate. He opened the doors to his Dojo in Lemoore California in 1999, and would establish a strong group of students that would grow with him. One of the first students to represent Sam Ochoa and Kenpo Karate was Lemoore's own Poppies Martinez. Martinez who got into martial arts in 2000 started with Sam Ochoa before he was known as the "Tachi KId''. Martinez would go on to win a WEC title under Sam Ochoa, which would gain the dojo more popularity.

 As the dojo became more successful, names like Tony "Tribal Warrior" Alanis, Medo Morales, and Andrew "Mickey D" Martinez would be in attendance on the regular in the original days of "Team Ochoa". Sadly Mr. Ochoa would pass on in 2006. Throughout the years, many fighters and trainers would carry on the Team Ochoa name with pride. Medo Morales would help lead the way, helping names like "The Project" Jeremy Luchau, Alex "The Decision" Perez, Sergio "The Outlaw" Quinones, and Michael Martinez leave their marks in the MMA world, even still to this day.

Sam Ochoa's name has lived on strong and continues to do so with new students carrying on with the legacy. Ochoa Combat Academy, a gym owned and operated by "Da Man" Jacob Jeff in Lemoore California now represents the Ochoa name with new fighters. Jacob Jeff also trained with the fellas at Team Ochoa back in the day. Jeff even went 2-0 as a pro in MMA, before getting back to his desk at the Tachi Palace Resort & Casino... In Lemoore!. He now trains a very talented group of guys at Ochoa Combat Academy.

Home to the Reyes Brothers out of Hanford, Ca. Older brother Gabriel Reyes is the current 559 Fights Bantamweight Champion with a 4-0 record so far in his amateur MMA career. He will defend his title at 559 Fights 102 Friday night December 22nd 2023 in Visalia, Ca. Tickets are available now @ www.eventbrite.com/e/559-fights-102-tickets-735000886437. Younger brother, Ronnie Reyes is also undefeated and will be competing for an interim title soon. The team has a few other up and coming fighters that you will be hearing more from in time.

Coach Jacob Jeff recently posted on his social media accounts about just how far he and coach Medo have come saying,

"Me and Medo Morales have been into a lot of battles with our fighters over the years. From Sam Ochoa Kenpo Karate, Ochoa Training Center, Sam Ochoa Dojo, Medo Morales MMA and now Ochoa Combat Academy. It’s awesome to have him back in the gym to help me groom the next batch of fighters and take Ochoa back to the ranks again."

Speaking of Medo Morales, make sure to wish him a Happy Birthday when you see him as his Birthday is on December 18th!
