Pro Box TV hosted their first event in the Central Valley on Saturday July 12th from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. The promotion along with Rick Mirigian also held and open work out and meet & greet in Fresno following the weigh ins on Friday. The open work out would introduce the media and boxing fans to the newest crop of fighters to keep an eye on, including Fresno’s own Jordan Fuentes who would main event the local portion of the card. The meet & greet that followed at the Chuckchansi Gold Resort Casino would allow boxing enthusiasts to meet the legend Juan Manuel Marquez, Paulie Malignaggi and many more.
Doors for Pro Box TV’s Contender Series at the Save Mart Center would open at 3pm on Saturday, with the action kicking off soon after. Pro Box TV went live on their platform and Amazon prime with Pro Box TV Contenders Series: Martinez vs Vernon.
The main event saw Vladimir Hernandez take on Francisco Vernon in the junior middleweight division. Argentina’s Vernon used his length and height to score with the jab. Hernandez would prove to have a tough chin surviving an early shot that seemed to stun him a bit. The fight would go the distance with Vernon getting the better of the fight in the judges eyes. Where they scored the fight (98-92, 98-92, 99-91), a unanimous decision for Francisco Vernon. Who is now 15-1and the new WBC Continental American Junior Middleweight Champion.In the main event of the local card, which took place following the live stream of Pro Box TV Contender Series. Fresno’s Jordan Fuentes had the hometown crowd on their feet from beginning to end. With Mariachi folklorico dancers leading the way to the ring. Fuentes wasted no time giving the fans what they came to see as he stopped Steveen Cruz with some hard shots that ended the fight at just :51 seconds into round 1. Fuentes moves to 5-0 in his young career.The finishes just kept coming on the second portion of the card with all five fights ending in round two or sooner. Gilroy’s Sammy Castellanos made quick work of Clayton Hibbert, leading a hard right hand to the body that nearly knocked Hibbert out the ring at just :29 seconds in round 2. Castellanos now stands at 3-0.Miguel Gaona kept his undefeated record in tact in impressive fashion, landing punches at will versus Daniel Perrales. Perrales tried to cover up but would not answer back with any offense forcing the referees to stop the fight at 1:29 in round 2. Gaona moves his record to 7-0.
La Puente’s Kevin Gudino recorded the knockout of the night landing a left hook that sent William Dana face first into the canvas at just :26 seconds into round 1. Gudino moves his record to 3-0 with the devastation KO.Bakersfield’s 13 year old “Rowdy” Ryan Martinez who was deemed “the baddest kid on the planet” by the UFC’s Dana White. Took on a tough Mason Brown out of Fresno in a amateur youth bout. Both fighters showed some impressive skills with the fight going the distance. “Rowdy” Ryan would get the nod from the judges making him the winner by decision.In other results:
