The Land Shark retains title, Souza new featherweight Champ: A1 Combat 23 Results

Another two events in a week are in the books for Tom Anderson and the crew at Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat. A1 Combat 23 from the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore California closed out the seven day stretch that began last week in Sacramento for the promotion. A1 Combat 23 would see two titles on the line, with the Central Valley’s own Jose Avalos defending his lightweight title in the main event. While a new featherweight champion was decided in the co main event.

In the main event of the night “The LandShark” Christian Avalos out of Parlier looked to defend his title versus us Samuel “The Alley Cat” Alvarez. Avalos scored mixing up some nice kicks and punches before taking the fight to the ground. Avalos would land some nice shots from top position while keeping Alvarez grounded. Avalos would continue with the kicks in round two and look for a takedown but Alvarez reverses position, ending up on top. Fighter would make it back to their feet and Alvarez was able to score with his stand up game as the fight went into the final round. Fighters would keep the fight standing, with Avalos mixing in a few take down attempts to keep Alvarez guessing. Each fighter would have their moment in the final round and would go the distance. Judges scored the fight (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), a split decision for Christian Avalos who retains his A1 Combat Lightweight title.

The vacant A1 Combat Featherweight title was on the line in the co main event. Bruno Souza and Erick Sanchez went the distance and after three rounds. judges scored the fight (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) a split decision for Bruno Souza making him the new A1 Combat Featherweight Champion.

Toste landed a few shots, but it was a right hand from McCottrell that dropped Toste at 1:47 in round 3. Making McCottrell the winner by KO.

Luis Jauregui defeated Mathew Reed by submission after Jauregui took the fight to the ground and started working his ground and pound.
