Looking forward to covering VFS for the first time, valleyfightnews.com reached out to a few of the competitors on the card. I was able to connect with a couple of fighters, with a familiar name to the VFS promotion. The Perez Family is back! This time it is (3-3) Severiano Perez and (0-0) Enemencia Perez ready to represent on the same card Saturday in Reedley, Ca.
The siblings, born and raised in Fresno, Ca both had the same answer when i asked how they got into combat sports? "Pops.. Dad.." I could tell right away but wasn't surprised that fighting, Is a family thing for the Perez Family.
"I got into MMA pretty much right out of high school. I did a semester at Fresno City, then got a call from my brother saying there was a opportunity for me to fight if I wanted to. I didn’t hesitate to take it. I’ve always been into fighting I started boxing when I was younger and then I got into wrestling throughout school. So fighting has always been in my blood."
"I grew up around combat sports" said Enemencia also known as "Emy" . "Always watching my pops instill it in my brothers from a young age I was always intrigued by it and looked up to my brothers and my pops knowledge for combat sports."
Severiano and Emy are the younger siblings to current VFS light heavyweight champion (6-1) AJ Perez. Who has made a name for himself throughout the Central Valley, collecting titles along the way. I asked them, how training has been going for their fights, they responded."Training has been great!! This fight camp I’ve been training with my pops and brothers at home as well as going out to Team KO in Farmersville". said Emy.
Severiano added "Training has been going excellent, it’s been the best training I’ve done for any fight. I’ve been working with Team KO in Farmerville with coach Danny and coach Johnny and I’ve been training at home with my father and sister."
Valley Fight Series 9 Goes down Saturday August 27th, 2022 from The Wake House In Reedley , Ca! The fighters have been putting in the work, and ready to go. Heading in to her MMA debut I asked Enemencia what it meant to her, and what it felt like fighting on the same card with her brother.
"It’s awesome doing something you love, then to be joined by my brother(s). The ones I looked up to, it's just amazing. I will say it is a whole lot more pressure. I not only have my nerves for me, I now have the same nerves for my brother. So it’s a whole lot more pressure but it’s all worth it really."
Weigh Ins! That's about all that's is left before these fighters get to handle business Saturday night. The Perez siblings finished off our time by thanking their supporters and coaches. Emy said,
"I’d like to shoutout all my coaches at KO Danny, Johnny, and my pops who have been riding with us through it all. I’d like to give extra appreciation to my father for his dedication getting us there and not missing a training day. Last but not least of course my mother, siblings, and all my family and friends for supporting always. Except a show! Let's see who wants it more!"
Severiano followed up with, "I want to thank everyone supported me and my sister through our journey. I want to thank both coach Danny and Johnny they pushed us into deep water when we needed it the most. I want to thank my dad for always being there for me, without him I couldn’t do anything I’ve done at all. I want to thank my gym in Fresno Concrete Jungle, they help mold my jujitsu and I want to shout out my family. I fight for them!"
