The Central Valley boxing fans were out in full force on fight night, with over 13,000 people in attendance. Home to the Fresno State Bulldogs, the Save Mart Center was packed to welcome Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. The red wave was even in full effect literally, as the Central Valley fans showed Golden Boy Promotions just how they get down when it comes to celebrating their own. Headlined by Avenal's own Jose Ramirez, Golden Boy Promotions first event in Fresno was a night to remember.

In the main event of the night, the Central Valley's own Jose Ramirez returned after a year since his last fight. To take on a tough veteran Rances Barthelemy. Ramirez, a former unified light welterweight champion ran into some trouble early in round three. When Barthelemy landed a hard left hand that stunned Ramirez. With Ramirez off balance, Barthelemy connects to the body forcing Ramirez to touch the mat with his glove and knee to stay up. What could have been a clean knock down, was wiped away when Barthelemy continued to hit Ramirez while he was down another four times before the referee stepped in.

Ramirez would get back to his feet immediately, with the referee scolding Barthelemy on the foul in the corner. No point was taken for the foul but the arena got a bit tense, now that Barthelemy let the hometown crowd know he was there to spoil the party. Barthelemy would find a home for the left hand a few more times in the fight. Ramirez looked refocused going into rounds four and five. Letting Barthelemy know that the war was just getting started. Ramirez dug deep, working the body and pouring on the pressure. Referee had to take a closer look, checking up on Barthelemy in round 11. When Ramirez started landing at will with no answer from the worn out southpaw. The fight would go the distance where the judges scored the fight (119-109. 119-109, 118-110) a unanimous decision for Jose Ramirez.

"First of all I would like to thank God, thank you to everyone for the love and support here in the Central Valley. Going back to my fight, it really wasn't the best performance of my career you know. I think i got overly excited, you know i felt cold during that fight. I could hear people screaming my name and I could see familiar faces ring side." said Ramirez with a chuckle. "There were many times in the fight where I was getting distracted."

It was a distraction in the third round that Ramirez said ended up costing him and giving Barthelemy the confidence. Able to weather that storm and refocus to pull off the win, Ramirez chalks it up to a lesson learned and now stands at (29-1).

In the co main event undefeated rising star Vergil Ortiz Jr. made quick work of former title challenger Thomas Dulorme. Ortiz Jr. landed a hard left hook to the body that sent Dulorme to the canvas in excruciating pain. Dulorme would not beat the referee's ten count making Ortiz the winner by KO at just 2:39 into round 1. Ortiz knew the damages he caused, smiling after landing the shot, just as Dulorme crumbled to the mat. Texas's Vergil Ortiz Jr. moves his record to 21-0, with 21 knockouts and looks to face (24-1) Tim Tszyu in a highly anticipated bout in August in Southern California.

“He was coming with everything,” said Virgil Ortiz Jr. “I can’t explain how I know when to land a shot like that, I can just feel it. I knew it was over, he made a sound and the way he fell. We spared like 7 years ago and a lot has changed. I was a kid back then. It’s an honor to share the ring with him. I feel like everything is where it needs to be. I know you’re watching this fight, Tim Tszyu. Just know I’m ready! I just want to fight the best. I don’t know why, they bring me opponents and I knock them out.”

Moving into the later rounds of the fight, Duarte would land a combo that had Diaz Jr. dazed. Duarte would close in and force the referee to step in and stop the fight. Just as the fight was stopped, Diaz Jr.'s corner would toss in the white towel and Duarte would get the win by tko at 2:32  in round 9.
