Simpson dominates in his pro debut in San Diego: Cage Warriors 182 Results

Fresno’s Josh “ComeUp Kid” Simpson is now 1-0 following his professional MMA debut in San Diego at Cage Warriors 182.

Simpson took on (0-1) Joshua Cervantes to open the card on UFC Fight Pass from the Sycuan Casino Resort. Cage Warriors 182 would give the California State Athletic Commission Judges the night off, as not one fight went the distance and all bouts were finished in the first round, besides two. Southern California MMA fans were on their feet for most of the night with nine MMA bouts to close out the year for Cage Warriors, who have had another successful year.

After a brief feeling out process, Simpson snatched up a single leg that led to Cervantes getting slammed to the canvas early in round one. Simpson landed some shots to the body looking to advance in top position. Cervantes would fight back to his feet midway through the round, but Simpson would reverse a takedown attempt from Cervantes and take the fight back to the ground himself. Where he moved to full mount and began landing the left hand.

Cervantes would give up his back trying to escape and Simpson made him pay, landing more punches until Cervantes was able to scramble to his feet. A suplex from Simpson would put Cervantes back down as the round came to a close. Cervantes would make it back to his feet, leaving time for Simpson to land a nice combo that seemed to hurt Cervantes as round ended.

Simpson went right back to work in round two, with Cervantes looking tired and winging his punches now. Simpson got the fight to the ground again where he looked to set up a rear naked choke. Simpson would then have his way versus Cervantes, moving from full mount to back control all around the cage while landing punches as Cervantes looks to survive.

Simpson would get Cervantes pinned along the cage, stand up and blast Cervantes with a knee to the body. Followed by a couple more punches that forced the referee to step in and stop the fight at 4:27 in round 2. The “ComeUp Kid” gets the win by tko and is now 1-0 as a pro moving into 2025.
