Tulare's Torrez Jr moves to 14-0 in Mexico

Tulare California’s Richard “Keke” Torrez Jr. made quick work of his opponent in his title defense out in Mexico on Saturday night. Torrez Jr. took on the Czech Republic’s (23-7) Tomas Salek on the main card for Top Rank’s Espinoza vs Khegai from the Arena Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. 

It is well known in the boxing community that Mexico can be the proving grounds for fighters. Often a place where many new boxers go to get the experience and work on attaining that attractive undefeated record that can have the promoters calling nonstop. For Torrez Jr. this would be his first trip to Mexico, and he did not disappoint with his performance. Torrez Jr. applied the pressure from the jump. Popping the jab while landing shots to the body that kept Salek back pedaling. 

Torrez Jr. closed in again and clipped Salek in the nose causing the blood to spill. Torrez Jr. then followed up with an uppercut that finished shattering Salek’s nose. The referee would step in to check on the damage and saw that Salek was in pain, forcing him to wave off the fight at just 2:45 into round 1. Torrez Jr. retains his WBO NABO & NABF  Heavyweight titles, while moving his record to 14-0.

In the main event of the night Rafael Espinoza defeated Arnold Khegai to retain his WBO World Featherweight title. Espinoza got the tko at :10 in round 11.

Lindolfo Delgado defeats Gabriel Valenzuela by split decision, judges scored the fight (114-113, 114-113, 113-114).

Emiliano Vargas defeats Jonathan Montrel by unanimous decision, judges scored the fight (100-89, 99-90, 99-90).

Julian Montalvo defeats Nicolas Patron by ko at 2:02 in round 1.

Jorge Ascano defeats Jose Amaro by split decision to win the WBO NABO Featherweight Title.

Jonathan Javier Fierro defeated Ulises Suarez by ko at :26 seconds in round 1.
