The energy was electric this past weekend at Mission Oak High School as The Grind Classic Jiu Jitsu Tournament delivered a day full of intense competition, community spirit, and high-stakes matchups. With divisions for Kids, Juvenile, Adult, and Master’s across both Gi and NoGi, the mats were packed with talent from every age group and skill level.
Over 50 Jiu Jitsu academies from across California showed up ready to represent, making this one of the most stacked brackets in Central Valley history. Families and fans enjoyed more than just world-class grappling — with live DJ music, exciting raffles, food vendors, and cash prizes on the line, the atmosphere stayed lively from start to finish.

Purple Belt Female Superfight
Elizabeth Veloz (Elite Team Visalia) battled it out against Sienna Ochoa (Fresno PMA) in a hard-fought Purple Belt Superfight. After a technical war, Veloz walked away with the win by decision, earning herself $500 and a custom swag chain.
NoGi Absolute Tournaments
Two stacked submission-only Absolute divisions followed — and they did not disappoint.
• Owen Sabroe (Elite Team Visalia) ran through the -168lb NoGi Absolute, going 3-0 with all submissions to claim the title, $500 cash, and his own swag chain.
• In the +168lb NoGi Absolute, teammate Samuel Hulsey submitted his way to gold and $500, also earning a swag chain and the right to compete for a title belt at the next Grind Classic.
The Main Event: Gunnar Gludd vs. Jesse Vasquez
The crowd erupted as Gunnar Gludd (Elite Team Fresno) faced off against Jesse Vasquez (10th Planet Pasadena) in the main event. Gunnar wasted no time — finishing the match in just over one minute via submission, securing the $1,000 cash prize, custom championship belt, and the title of Grind Classic Absolute Champion (+168lbs).
