Quinones stops Rodriguez to win VFS heavyweight title: Valley Fight Series 9 Results

The Wakehouse in Reedley, Ca was sold out Saturday night! August 27th 2022, Central Valley MMA fans and supporters packed the house for the event. Standing room only tickets were about all that was left, as the crowd continue to pile in for Valley Fight Series 9!

In the main event the VFS heavyweight championship was on the line, As current champ (2-1) Zach Rodriguez took on (3-0) Erik Quinones. Rodriguez charged at Quinones out the gate, landing a few punches as he pressured Quinones along the cage. Quinones would reverse position, controlling Rodriguez along the cage before taking the fight to the ground. Quinones would work his way to full mount, where he landed some hard shots.
Rodriguez would work his way out of the mount, but Quinones took his back. Rodriguez would look to stand and improve his position, but Quinones locked in a standing rear naked choke that forced that tap in round 1, Making Erik Quinones the new VFS heavyweight champion.

In the co main event, the VFS Featherweight championship was on the line as (2-7) Jordan Irizarry looked to defend his title vs (2-3) Nouel Toma. Irizarry was able to use his length and reach to keep a good distance from Toma, while scoring with his kicks throughout the fight. Toma had some moments of his own, snapping back with kicks and combos, trying to cut the distance. The fight went to the judges score cards, where they scored 29-28, 29-28, 29-27,  a split decision for Jordan Irizarry.

In the VFS Flyweight championship fight, (4-4) Steven Antonio defeated (1-2) Alec Acuavera by unanimous decision. Antonio used his ground game to secure the judges decision after three rounds of action.

Jesse Vasquez submits Jay Nunez  with a head scissor choke to win the VFS cruiserweight Grappling title.

(1-2) Drew "Thor" Preheim defeats (2-6) Omar Reneau to become the new VFS cruiserweight champion. Preheim took the fight to the canvas where he was able to take Reneau's back. Preheim stayed calm, improved his position, and locked in a rear naked choke that forced the tap at 1:34 in round 1.

(1-0) Jeff Bonilla defeats (2-0) Brandon Campo by unanimous decision, all three judges scored the fight 30-27.

Enemencia "Emy" Perez made a successful amateur MMA debut defeating (0-2) Julia Mansfield by split decision. Judges scored the fight 29-27, 29-28, 29-28.

(0-0) Gianni Garcia defeats (0-0) Gabriel Badilla by knockout in round 2. 

(0-1) Giovanni Ascencio defeats  (1-0) Matt Fraser by knockout at 1:34 in round 1.

(1-3) Gerson Hernandez defeats (1-3) Daniel Islas by unanimous decision, All three judges scored the fight 29-28.

(3-3) Daniel Bradley defeats (3-5) Juan Campos by tko in round 2.

(0-0) Carlos Hernandez defeats (0-0) Nate Santos by tko in round 3.

(0-0) John Vargas vs (0-0) Kaleo Lagapa

((0-1) Cristian Dominguez defeats (0-0) Anthony Ramirez by unanimous decision. Judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, 30-29.

(0-0) Matthew Martinez defeats (0-0) William Parke by submission with a guillotine choke that forced the tap at 1:33 in round 1.

Severiano "Sevy" Perez defeats Marlon Watkins by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 30-27
