Vitruvian MMA is no stranger to 559 Fights Gold, under lead instructor Marc "The Hitman" De La Cruz and the team. They have held two titles prior with 559 fights.
I was able to connect with Lopez prior to his title fight. Where he will be taking on (3-1) Royce Butler for the 559 Fights Featherweight title. Saturday August 13th, 2022. I asked how he got started in the game and how training for this fight has been going? he replied,
"I got into jiu jitsu right out of high school. I've been in and out of the gym for years and slowly got into MMA. Training has been awesome for this fight. I'm working with Vitruvian MMA, and on my boxing with Ruben "The Ice Cream Kid" Cuellar in Tulare."
Lopez has been putting in the work! That is the word I get when I asked a few folks how the young fighter is coming along. I was able to reach out to head instructor at Vitruvian MMA, Marc De La Cruz for his thoughts on Lopez heading into the weigh ins. he let us know,
"Lopez is looking good, He's coming off some great performances recently in jiu jitsu tournaments. He's been training at Vitruvian for almost 2 years. I know the weight cut is a little difficult this time but that's our main concern. He's a grinder when it comes to training, he has two jobs and a baby. So finding time to be in the gym also presents some hardship, he deserves this title shot."
When asked what he knew about his opponent, and what this title shot meant to him? Lopez replied,
"I know my opponent is a tough game opponent, but this title shot means everything to me! I'm just a normal guy, living his dream and I'm ready for war with him. Expect a high pace and a lot of action."
559 Fights 89 goes down Saturday August 13th, 2022 at the Valley Strong Ballpark! Tickets are going fast! Only thing left to do is weigh in, and with that I asked Lopez if he had any final thoughts or shout outs? he finished off by saying,"I want to thank my girlfriend and mother of my daughter first. For all the sacrifices she makes, so I’m able to do what I love. Also my coach's Marc De La Cruz, Ruben Cuellar and all the other coaches at Vitruvian! Thank you to my sponsors The High Crew and The Cloud Factory"
