In the main event Current 559 Fights Flyweight champion (5-1) Laz Maldondo looks to defend his title versus Parlier's (3-0) George Burgos. The two cross paths for the second time this year, after their first meeting ended premature. Last time these two competitors shared the cage, the fight was just getting heated and settling into a fast pace. Until a unintentional foul ended the fight and it was ruled a no contest. This Saturday night at the Valley Strong Ballpark in Visalia, Ca. They run it back!
Born and raised in Fresno, Ca Lazarus Maldonado is no stranger to rematch's inside the 559 Fights cage. The young fighter holds a armature MMA record of 5-1. He is currently on a three fight win streak. Last picking up a win in a rematch against a fighter who earned a unanimous decision against Maldonado, earlier in his career. Maldonado finished that rematch inside the first round, not only to get back that L, but to win the 559 Fights Flyweight title.
Maldonado now resides in Austin, TX but still makes the trip to California for training. Connecting with Maldonado, I asked how he got into the sport and about how training has been going ? he replied,
"I was born and raised in Fresno, Ca but I currently live in Austin, TX. However, I still go back and forth between the two to be able to train. Growing up I've always been active and participated in different activities. My family has always been into watching UFC, on big cards my friends and family would come over to watch and place bets and it made me think about how i could be there doing the same thing." as for training, "I am always busy with work and with the transition between the two states training gets hard at times but it has been going pretty good. I have found a new gym out here in addition to having one of my coaches flying out to help train from Cali."
Following the no contest in May versus Burgos at 559 Fights 87. Maldonado looks forward to getting back in the cage Saturday night In Visalia. He knows his opponent brings a crowd, but so does he. As he welcomes the challenge like any real champion would saying,
"The last fight wasn't my best and went pretty quick, but I'm excited to get another chance to have our rematch. I think it will be exciting for the both of us since we each have our own fan bases and family. The crowed will get pretty crazy. The fans can expect a show that I'm willing to keep up with and keep entertaining! Yet at the end of the match, it won't be nothing new! I'll come out victorious."
Laz ended by thanking all his supporters saying,
"I want to thank everyone that's supported me from my start. My coaches, family, and friends have never hesitated to support me. They never doubt me or my potential. Each and every person including my new coaches and gym out here in Austin have shown me nothing but love and support, for which i am grateful."
