Fresno's Cole "The Apache kid" Escovedo began his career in 2001 at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore California at WEC 2. He picked up a win by triangle choke in the first round. The triangle choke would prove to be Escovedo's favorite, as he returned at WEC 3, where he picked up another win with the choke, this time in :29 seconds. "The Apache Kid" would continue to put opponents away, earning his way to a 11-1 professional MMA record with seven finishes by submission with that go to triangle choke. Escovedo was the inaugural WEC Featherweight Champion, which set up the historic battle between him and "The California Kid' Urijah Faber at WEC 19. Cole would keep stepping up in competition before a serious staph infection would leave him partially paralyzed and in need of spinal surgery in 2007.
Escovedo's record stood at (12-4), while he picked up one of the biggest wins of his life, battling back to the point where he was able to compete again. Escovedo returned to the Tachi Palace for the PFC after missing nearly three years. He competed for the TPF and eventually won the promotion's bantamweight title, last competing at the Tachi Palace in 2010. Escobedo moved on to the "big leagues" competing for Japan's Dream and the UFC. Some valley fans still remember staying up until 3 a.m. to see "The Apache Kid" get a win with a highlight reel head kick. Escovedo finished his career with the UFC and retired in 2011. Escovedo now patrols the streets of Fresno as a Police Officer. Congratulations to Cole " The Apache Kid" Escovedo on being inducted into the Tachi Palace Hall of Fame.
