Hanford's Ronnie Reyes ready for flyweight title shot at 559 Fights 103 January 27th in Visalia

It is fight week in the Central Valley! 559 Fights is back to kick off the new year with 559 Fights 103 Saturday January 27th, 2024 from the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, Ca. Some of the best amateur fighters in California will be on hand with three titles on the line on the main card.

One of those titles up for grabs is the interim 559 Fights Flyweight Championship. While current champion Robert Lopez decides if he is going pro, or defending the title. An interim champ will be crowned when two of the best amateur flyweights in California meet at 559 Fights 103. Hanford's Ronnie Reyes will step in for his chance at the title Saturday Night in Visalia.

A Graduate from Hanford High School where he played football and excelled in wrestling. Wrestling was nothing new to Reyes when he started high school though. He has been pretty much doing it since he could stand as a child saying,

"I played a little bit of football but my main sport was wrestling, I've been wrestling since I learned to walk."

High School and College wrestling usually steers young athletes MMA's way after competing for their schools. For Reyes it was his older brother Gabriel Reyes who got him into MMA.

"My brother Gabe got me into MMA. We love to watch UFC and he wanted to fight but I never saw myself actually getting into the cage."

Gabriel went on an impressive amateur MMA run in 2023, winning the 559 Fights title and will move onto the pro's very soon.

Now known as the Reyes Brothers in the Central Valley, Ronnie and Gabe train out of Ochoa Combat Academy in Lemoore, Ca led by Jacob Jeff. I asked Ronnie how his experience has been with one of the most prestigious gyms in the Valley? he responded with,

"My journey at Ochoa Combat Academy has been a great experience. We have a great group of guys with different backgrounds. I'm thankful for all that they do for us."

Ronnie Reyes takes on undefeated (4-0) Cyrus Povoor out of Manteca, Ca and Castro MMA who will be making his promotional debut for 559 Fights.

"I don't know much about my opponent but I'm not too worried. I'm confident in my camp. I wish him luck but not too much."

A new Interim 559 Fights Flyweight Champion will be crowned. Earning a title at 559 Fights definitely means a lot in the Valley. It helps propel amateurs to the next level, so when the professional promotions hear or see that a fighter has held that 559 Fights belt. They know it was earned and the level of competition to get it or even compete for it, is where it should be, tough.

"The 559 title means a lot to my team, my family, and myself. I have worked so hard in this camp along with my team. So it’d be great to take back some hardware to our gym."

Reyes has enough on his mind getting ready for Saturday night at the Visalia Convention Center, to be worrying about what's next. His brother Gabe will be going pro for A1 Combat sometime this year. Ronnie does look to follow his brother into the pro's, but on his time saying,

"Yeah my brother will be fighting for A1 this upcoming year. I see myself probably defending the title then maybe going pro, but I’m in no rush I’m just enjoying the moment. I wanna thank my family for all of their support, my coaches and teammates for always pushing me to be better."

As far as his message to the the 559 Fights fans, Reyes simply said,

“And Newwwww!!!!”
