Avenal's Jose Ramirez set to welcome Devin Haney back to the squared circle May in New York

The Valley's Jose Ramirez looks to have his first fight scheduled in 2025 and boy is it a big one. Ramirez who is coming off only his second loss in thirty one fights. Will head to New York in May to welcome back the Bay Area's Devin Haney to the squared circle.

Ramirez now holds a record of 29-2 and is looking to get back on track since the unanimous decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr last year in November. Ramirez will now take on the former Undisputed Lightweight and WBC Super Lightweight Champion (31-0-0-1) Devin Haney.

Haney is back in his first fight since he fought Ryan Garcia in New York in April of last year. A story that most boxing fans are familiar with, Garcia misses weight but does pick up the win in impressive fashion, dominating the fight. Garcia then fails a drug test following the match up. Where Haney would then take him to court and have  the loss overturned to a no contest. At the time Haney was still the WBC Super Lightweight Champion but would go on a mini hiatus and requested a “Champion in recess” status from the WBC in the summer of last year.

Ramirez will now meet Haney in a super lightweight matchup that many have talked about for some time. Boxing fans are questioning if Haney will be the same fighter following his last performance. While Ramirez has something to prove as well, looking to stamp his place in line for a possible title shot in the future.

There is also news going around that Ryan Garcia is expected to take on Rolly Romero on the same card for the WBA World Welterweight Championship. A belt which is a secondary title to current WBA Super World Welterweight Champion Eimantas Stanionis, who will be looking to unify the title in April.
