Two CAMO state titles will be on the line as Farmersville's (9-3) David Mariscal takes on (5-0) Rafael Jimenez for the CAMO State lightweight championship, the VFS lightweight title will also be on the line in this fight.
The CAMO State heavyweight title will also be up for grabs at VFS 11, as San Diego's (4-0) Devon Simons out of 10th Planet makes his way to the Valley. Welcoming him here, VFS heavyweight Champion (4-0) Erik Quinones.
Originally from Kaaawa, Hawaii Erik Quinones representing the Valley Fight Club in Hanford, has made a solid name for himself in the amateur MMA heavyweight division. Quinones is 4-0 with finishes in all four of his fights so far, and captured the VFS heavyweight title in his last outing. I reached out to the 6'3" southpaw to see how he as been doing and how training has been going prior to his fight Saturday night in Hanford, he replied,
"Life is well, I am doing everything I can to make each day better than the last, for myself and everyone around me. Training under Diamond and D, with Marqus, Frank, Thomas, Lane, Vargas, John boy, Brandon, Sam, Jacob, Colin, Cody, Bobby & Neto. Good stable of fighters."Quinones defends his VFS heavyweight title and looks to win the CAMO State title in the same night. It would seem like a lot to handle for most. I asked Quinones what it meant to fight for both titles. He explained how he resets himself after every test, whether there is a title or not, saying.
"It’s unbelievable, a testament to the development of my Martial Arts. The titles mean a lot the night of fight, but once that nights at an end, I return to the bottom of the mountain and I start climbing again."
Quinones takes on undefeated Devon Simons out of San Diego. Simons trains out of 10th Planet and is also 4-0 with four finishes. I asked Quinones what he knew about his opponent. He replied,
"What I know is he is going to be the best challenge and incredible adversary. I am grateful for the opportunity."
With bright future ahead, either way. Quinones would move to 5-0 and hold both titles at the amateur level. There could only be more success ahead, but Quinones seems to be in no rush. Seems to be enjoying the moment, letting things falls where they may, and facing the challenges head on when the time comes. I asked Quinones what his plans in MMA were, and if there was anyone he wanted to thank or shout out. He finished with"My plan is to perform at my highest capability, the future will come when it should and I will meet it. I give my thanks to my Lord Savior, my parents & brothers Corey & Chad. All my Hawaii tribe from my walks in life, all preparing with me in the gym including Paisano, la Familia, Bailey & VFC community. Special thanks to my sponsor Papa Beast Apparel. See you March 4th!"
