Parlier's Christian "The LandShark" Avalos has sights set on A1 Combat gold en route to the UFC

It is fight week in the Valley!...Again! A1 Combat is back in the Central Valley Friday August 4th with A1 Combat 13 from the Tachi Palace Casino & Resort in Lemoore, Ca. The promotion continues to make it's rounds up and down California. This will be the third time they stop at the Tachi Palace since bringing professional MMA back to the Central Valley earlier this year in February. They head  to Southern California next, with plans to invade Las Vegas towards the end of the year.

One fighter looking to ride that A1 Combat wave in the hunt for A1 gold is "The LandShark" Christian Avalos out of Parlier, Ca.  Fighting out of Dethrone MMA, Avalos is a product of 559 Fights where he went 7-0 as a amateur, finishing every fight but one. Christian is now (2-1) as a professional and looks to make some more noise in the A1 Combat lightweight division following his debut for the promotion in April. I connected with "The LandShark" prior to his fight at the Tachi Palace Casino & Resort Friday night.

Christian and his family recently welcomed a new baby girl to the family. I started by asking how life has been since? Avalos let us know what he as been up to saying,

"I’ve been good staying busy working on home remodels with my brother Jose. Life has been different since my daughter was born, Its difficult making time to train Mixed Martial Arts when I’m not in fight camp."

Avalos returned to the cage in April of this year after some time away from competing. He picked up a submission win at A1 Combat 10. From what we seen in his performance, you could tell Avalos was keeping up with training, even when not competing. I asked Avalos about his training this time around? he responded with,

"I’m always working I find time for training even if I can’t make it to Dethrone that day I make it up by going to GB3 in morning. It felt good to pick up a win in that fashion 1st round submission only took a minute and a half  I believe. My training hasn’t changed much from my last fight camp, I’ve been working on my boxing with coach Rudy and we’ve made improvements from last fight."

"The LandShark" takes on (2-0) Andrew Kerfoot who has been putting in work over at King of the Cage. Kerfoot stopped both his opponents in the first round by KO, with his last fight only lasting :41 seconds. I asked Avalos what he knew about his opponent? he said,

Christian Avalos, Dethrone Fresno - Cali Fights Magazine
"I know my opponent is good jiujitsu fighter, but this is MMA and it’s a whole different ball game when you can mix it up real well and thank you for taking the fight but I fight for a whole different reason and your going to see that come Aug 4th."

When talking about his plans for his MMA career, Avalos explained what he thought of A1 Combat and what he had his sights on. He also has his eyes on the UFC saying,

"A1 combat is a great promotion to fight on because it’s owned by a Legend in MMA. I’m looking to win the A1 Combat Lightweight title then make it to the big show UFC, it’s always been on my mind since I started this journey in 2016."

I asked Avalos if there was anyone he wanted to thank or shout out? and if he had a message for the Valley fight fans? he finished with,

"I want to give a shout out to Dethrone MMA and all the coaches that have helped mold me into the fighter I am today. Also thanks to all my sponsors who always have my back making sure I have everything I need in fight camp. You can expect to see a better version from the last fight as I’m always improving and learning from my coaches and teammates. I want to show my fans something different this time I’m over due!"
