Outside the Valley Spotlight: Pure Combat "High Desert Brawl 16" Results

Outside the Valley Spotlight visits a familiar name when it comes to MMA in the Central Valley, as we catch up with Al Joslin's Pure Combat. Pure Combat started out in Visalia, Ca in 2007, holding their first handful of events at the Visalia Convention Center. The promotion now host shows in different areas, including the Diamond Mountain Casino in Susanville, Ca. where Pure Combat High Desert Brawl 16 was held on Saturday September 9th, 2023. A night full of Mixed Martial Arts action including some youth pankration and pro kick boxing bouts.

In the main event the Pure Combat welterweight title was on the line as Justin Baseman took on Aleko Sagliani. Baseman looked to score with kicks early in the fight. Sagliani was able to catch one of the kicks and land a right hand. Sending Baseman to the mat, where Sagliani landed more punches until the referee stopped the fight on round 1.

The heavyweights took to the cage in the co main event as Carl Seumanutafa took on Derrick Williams. Williams looked to pressure Seumanutafa along the cage but would get caught in a guillotine choke that forced the tap making Seumanutafa the winner at :37 seconds in round 1. 

In a Pro kickboxing bout Mike Morales defeats Manuel Camo by tko at 2:25 in round 3.

Edward Schmehl defeats Anthony Green by tko after getting the fight to the canvas where he got to full mount. Schmehl then landed some nice elbows and punches until the referee stopped the fight at in round 1.

Justin Johnson defeats Quentin Maumoynier by decision in the final youth pankration bout of the night.

Taden Mckernan defeats Colin Taylor in a youth pankration match. Mckernan mixed up the body and head shots well leaving Taylor unable to continue :at 37 seconds in round 2.

Wes Ruffer defeats Thomas Montoya by submission after transitioning from a rear naked choke to a arm bar that forced Montoya to tap at 1:34 in round 1.

Amateurs opened up the night as Adolfo  De La Cruz took on Joe Winfry. De La Cruz secured a rear naked choke that forced the tap at 1:26 in round 2.
