Central Valley goes 3-0 on Golden Boy’s: Bohachuk vs Ortiz Jr card in Las Vegas

The Central Valley was represented well on Saturday August 10th in Las Vegas, when Golden Boy and DAZN presented Bohachuk vs Ortiz Jr. Saturday night from the Michelob Ultra Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Three up and coming boxers from the Central Valley made the trip to Las Vegas to take part on the undercard of Bohachuk vs Ortiz Jr. The main event for the interim WBC Super Welterweight title between former Champion Serhii Bohachuk and the undefeated Vergil Ortiz Jr. Has been added to the candidates for fight of the year. Following a very close fight that went the distance. Judges scored the fight for Ortiz, making him the new interim WBC Super Middleweight champion when it was all said and done.

Bakersfield’s Joel Iriarte moves his record to 4-0 in impressive fashion. Stopping Miguel Ortiz at 2:15 in round 1. Iriarte pressed the action from the start and landed a left hook that sent Ortiz stumbling to the ropes. Moments later a second left hook hurt Ortiz, this time Iriarte followed up. Landing a few more unanswered shots before the referee would step in to stop the fight in round 1.

Jennah Creason vs Kelsey Wickstrum/Golden Boy
Before the main card, Visalia’s Jennah “The Gem” Creason would make her much anticipated pro boxing debut versus (2-1) Kelsey Wickstrum in the first fight of the night. Creason kept the pressure on, scoring while keeping Wickstrum’s back to the ropes throughout the fight. Wickstrum landed a few nice punches of her own in the four round affair that went the distance. Judges scored the fight (40-36, 39-37,39-37) a split decision for Creason, who is now 1-0 as a pro.

Jordan Fuentes vs James Mulder/Golden Boy
Fresno’s Jordan Fuentes also made a successful pro debut defeating James Mulder by unanimous decision after four rounds of action. Judges scored the bout (40-36, 39-37, 39-37).


Bohachuk vs Ortiz Jr. Results:

Vergil Ortiz Jr. defeats Serhii Bohachuk by majority decision to win the WBC Interim Super Welterweight Championship. Judges scored the fight (113-113, 114-112 ,114-112).

Charles Conwell defeated Khiary Gray by ko at 2:32 in round 2.

Kenneth Sims Jr. defeats Jair Valtierra by ko at 3:00 in round 5.

Gabriela Fundora defeats Daniela Asenjo by unanimous decision to retain her IBF Women's Flyweight Championship. Judges scored the fight (100-90, 100-90, 100-90).

Joel Iriarte defeats Miguel Ortiz by tko at 2:15 in round 1.

Cecilia Braekhus defeats Maricela Cornejo by unanimous decision to win the interim WBC Women’s Welterweight title. All three judges scored the fight (96-93).

Eric Priest defeats Luka Lozo by unanimous decision, all three judges scored the fight (100-90).

Johnny Canas defeated Joseph Cruz by unanimous decision, all three judges scored the bout (40-36).

Jordan Fuentes defeats James Mulder by unanimous decision, judges scored the fight (39-37, 39-37, 40-36).

Jennah Creason defeated Kelsey Wickstrum by split decision, judges scored the fight (40-36, 39-37, 39-37).
