Avenal's Jose Ramirez travels to Saudi Arabia for next fight on November 16th

Avenal’s (29-1) Jose Ramirez will be heading to Saudi Arabia for his next fight. The former unified light welterweight champion will take on undefeated (30-0) Arnold Barboza Jr. in the co main event of Riyadh Season’s Latino Night: Zurdo vs Billam-Smith. Co promoted along with Golden Boy and Boxxer, the event will take place on Saturday November 16th, 2024.

Ramirez, a former Olympian, is currently on a three fight win streak and closing in on a title opportunity. Barboza Jr is currently the WBO Intercontinental light welterweight champion who last saw action in April in New York. The fight between Ramirez and Barboza Jr. had been agreed to in June, with promoters targeting September for the fight date. The bout now moves to the co main event slot on November 16th, 2024.

Ramirez, who trains with Robert Garcia in Southern California seems to be excited to travel for his next bout. He has competed at home in the Central Valley in his last three fights at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. Ramirez spoke to longtime boxing reporter Elie Seckbach of ESNEWS letting him know that he would not be traveling alone. Ramirez is flying in 20 people out to Saudi Arabia for his fight. The main event of Riyadh Season’s Latin Night will see the WBA and WBO cruiserweight title’s get unified. When WBA Cruiserweight Champion (46-1) Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez takes on WBA Cruiserweight Champion (20-1) Chris Billam-Smith. The event is scheduled to be broadcasted for free globally.
