“I feel like
additional weight classes have been flirted with by many nationwide promotions
and commissions. It’s not a new idea per se, but it is something that I’ve
wanted to implement for the last few years as I’ve seen weight cutting for
amateur fights increase.” Said 559 Fights President Jeremy Luchau.
“People often miss the real opportunity of what competing in
amateur MMA is. It’s an opportunity to get valuable cage experience, and
tremendous growth in skills, without the cost of affecting your professional
record. We still have many teams, coaches, and athletes that treat it like the
UFC and resort to unhealthy weight cutting to get advantages over opponents.”
559 Fights will look to crown two new champions in the new weight divisions come 2025 at 559 Fights 111 in January.
“With additional weights classes, also comes the opportunity
for some additional title fights and we can put the spotlight on three new
titles we will crown this year 165 pounds super lightweight, 175 pounds
welterweight, and 195 pounds super middleweight.” Said Luchau
Any coaches or fighters interested in competing in the new weight classes are urged to contact Jeremy Luchau and or the matchmakers at 559 Fights. For more info and contact information visit www.559fights.com
