The “ComeUp Kid” Joshua Simpson heads to San Diego for MMA pro debut at Cage Warriors 182 Dec 13th

Following an amateur career full of highlight reels and accomplishments. Dethrone MMA’s Joshua “The ComeUp Kid” Simpson is set for his pro debut in San Diego.

Simpson heads to Southern California to compete on the Cage Warriors 182 card on December 13th, 2024, from the Sycuan Casino Resort in San Diego, Ca. Valley Fight News.com was able to catch up with the “ComeUp Kid” prior to his pro debut.

“It was exactly what my Coach told me I needed, to experience the ups and downs of this game and find a groove of how I’m going to approach the fight game as a pro.” said Simpson on his experience, in amateur MMA.

As a 559 Fights veteran, it only made sense for Joshua Simpson to finish his amateur MMA run with 559 Fights. He did just that at 559 Fights 109 in October with an impressive outing versus an always tough Adrian Reyes out of The Chute in Bakersfield. Simpson finished with a 7-4 record as an amateur and is now set to compete for Cage Warriors as pro.

An MMA promotion based out of London, England that has been around since 2002. Cage Warriors made their United States debut in 2008 with a few events in Florida. They wouldn’t return to the states again until 2021 at Cage Warriors 126 when they made their debut in California from Humphrey’s by the Bay in San Diego.

The visit would make San Diego, California the new home for Cage Warriors moving forward, when doing shows in the U.S. Holding eleven events in the area since. When asked how the fight came about and how he felt about his upcoming pro debut? Simpson replied,

“Feels like another day in the office, just ready to take care of business. My team at Dethrone and my guy Rick felt it was time to go up so, Cage Warriors gave us an offer and the rest is in the making.”

Names like Paddy Pimblett, Michael Bisping and Connor McGregor all made names for themselves under the Cage Warriors banner. Now with their events featured live on UFC Fight Pass, Cage Warriors has become a well known name in the United States as they close in on their 200th event.

“I know a lot of guys that get a first class ticket to the UFC if they perform good there, so I’m happy to go take over a big promotion like that.”  Replied Simpson when asked about his thoughts on Cage Warriors.

As far as training, Simpson said.

“Training has been going great, I’ve been learning new styles. Adding new tools, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in for a while, I’ve been working hard with all the same guys.”

Simpson also holds an amateur boxing title for Fight for the Fallen in Fresno and has plans to compete in both MMA and boxing in the future. When asked about his goals in both sports? Simpson replied,

“Long term I’m coming for that Cage Warriors Bantamweight title, short term I’m defending my Fight for the Fallen boxing title. We have a lot of offers right now but I’m just taking it fight by fight for the time being. Then hopefully when Marquitos feels I’m ready. We’ll be knocking on those doors of a pro boxing debut soon.”

Simpson takes on 0-1 Joshua Cervantes out of Los Angeles this month on Friday the 13th on the undercard of Cage Warriors 182.

“He’s a scrapper with some experience but just another competitor in the way. The Valley can expect a good ole fashion No Town beatdown! Definitely going to be an early night with some highlights to turn up to for the city.” Said Simpson on what the Central Valley can expect come fight night.

The “ComeUp Kid” finished by thanking his support system saying,

“I’d like to thank my Tia, my Bakersfield family, Coach Mike, Coach Lamar, Coach Issac Morles, my first MMA coach ever Marquitos. Thanks to all my coaches that work with me whenever I’m on the move. Shout out to all my sponsors that keep your boy afloat! Los Picantes, Abel Reco, Trippy Nautz, Modern Hippies, Onserf, Tower Blendz, Mufflers Kingz, Kater Kingz, Kevin Burks and Nancy Burks of Burks Steam Cleaning, and of course my whole squad Dethrone MMA! Wouldn’t be here without them⚔️.”
