The main event would see a new 559 Fights and CAMO State
featherweight champion be crowed when Tracy’s Ramon Cornejo took on Fresno’s
Isaiah Walls. Walls controlled round one with his wrestling pinning Cornejo
along the cage and taking the fight to the ground. Walls was looking to work
his way to Cornejo’s back, but Cornejo escapes and the fight is reset with both
fighters on their feet as round one came to a close. The roles switched in
round two, and it was Cornejo who applied the pressure, pushing Walls back up
on the cage. While popping some hard punches in between until he got the fight
to the ground. Cornejo would then secure a rear naked choke that forced the tap
at 2:58 in round 2. Making Castro MMA’s Ramon Cornejo the new 559 Fights &
CAMO State champion. Cornejo now stands at 10-2 as an amateur and is now a two
time CAMO State champion. Look for Cornejo to begin his professional career in
2025.
The Valley’s Brianna Stephens and Jasmine Heraldez went to
war in the co main event, in what was the “fight of the night” in many opinions. Both
ladies had their moments in the stand up department of the opening round.
Stephens fired off some nice leg kicks, while Heraldez used her footwork to set
up some counter striking. Stephens would get a takedown in round two where she
landed some hard punches while looking to set up a submission. Heraldez would open
up in round three with her punches, throwing everything she had at Stephens and
connecting. Stephens would cover up well as Heraldez unloaded, stood calm, and shot
in for a takedown that got the fight to the ground. Heraldez would reverse positions,
but the sound of the bell ended the fight. Sending it to the judge’s score
cards where they scored the fight a unanimous decision victory for Brianna
Stephens out of Crisp Kickboxing Muay Thai MMA. Stephens is now 2-0.
559 Fights veteran Josh “Come Up Kid” Simpson out of Dethrone
MMA returned home to the 559 Fights cage to take on Bakersfield’s Adrian Reyes.
The fight would go the distance with Simpson getting the unanimous decision
after three rounds of action. Following a successful and very entertaining run
in the amateur’s, this looks to have been the “Come Up Kid’s” last time competing
on the amateur circuit. Simpson now stands at 7-4 as an amateur and will now
focus on his professional debut.
Madera MMA went 4-0 on the night at 559 Fights 109. Chris Chapa
and Moses Contreras handled business on the main card, both picking up unanimous
decision wins. Chapa went the distance with Pablo Solis who also showed much improvement
in his game. While Contreras got the nod over Krikor Balkian, with all three
judges scoring the fight 29-28. On the undercard Jiovanny Melendez moved his
record to 2-0 versus Mark Gutierrez to get the night started for Madera MMA.
Melendez landed a nice combo that dropped Gutierrez and earned him the knockout
win at just :25 seconds into round 1. Josh McMillon has the crowd on their feet
with a dominant performance at 559 Fights 109. McMillon took his opponent
Robert Williams to “Suplex city”, slamming Williams all around the cage while
landing some hard punches in between. The referee decided he seen enough at 1:05
into round 1, moving McMillon to 2-0 in the lightweight division.
Exeter’s Samurai Dojo picked up two wins at 559 Fights 109.
Middleweight and fan favorite Marshall Zachary moved his record to 2-0,
defeating Israel Gallegos by tko at :30 seconds in round 2. Zachary put Gallegos down with a body shot,
then followed up with some ground and pound until the ref stopped the fight. Also
out of the Samurai Dojo, Raul Cook picked up his first win as amateur defeating
Christopher Holtgreen by tko.
